Danish designed 1956 by Kai Kristiansen, the beloved and popular model #42 chair was designed for Schou Andersen.  The design offers a pivoting backrest which adapts to your natural siting position, offering an added level of comfort.

Pay attention to the back legs that extend to form the arm rest.  Sought after for not only it's beautiful understated looks, but it's comfort, it has become one of the most iconic Danish modern pieces of furniture today.  Until recently the chair was produced exclusively in Shikoku Japan.

GENERAL

Due to the inherent nature of natural timber and wood veneers, grains and colours may vary slightly.  These unique characteristics of timber and wood should be appreciated.

The entire seat frame is made from solid Ash wood, stained in a Walnut finish.  A Pivoting backrest adapts to your own seating position offering an added level of comfort. 

This item comes fully assembled.

Suitable uses include Dining Chair or Side Chair.

THE DESIGNER

Kai Kristiansen

Danish prolific Designer Kai Kristiansen studied at Det Danske Kongelige Kunstakaemi as a cabinet maker in Copenhagen where he finished his apprenticeship in 1948.  Two years later he was accepted into Danish Academy of Fine Arts where we went on to train under Kaare Klint.  In 1955 he opened his own studio.  Durning the 50’s he designing many pieces furniture such as sideboards, desks, chairs, tables, shelving units and cabinetry. 

He has designed for Schou Andersen Møbelfabrik, Feldballes, Magnus Olesen, Fritz Hansen, Axel Kjærsgaard and Heltborg.  His design is characterized by clean lines and the intensive use of teak and rosewood timbre.  From 1966 to 1970 he was the driving force behind the Scandinavian Furniture Fair.
